Are group boards REALLY dead?

Published 3 months ago • 2 min read

Hey, Reader!

For the past few years, we've all heard that Pinterest group boards were dead. I've had my suspicions about this "fact" so I decided to do a little experiment.

Let me explain…After 8 months back on Pinterest (after a 20-month hiatus) my engagements weren’t growing as quickly as I’d liked.

So, I decided to conduct a new group board experiment.

You may remember, that way back in 2018, I developed a manual pinning strategy that used group boards to quickly get engagement and increase the possibility of getting a pin to go viral.

I even created and sold a very successful ebook about it called, Manual Pinning Simplified.

In late 2019, Pinterest told us that they would be changing how pins from group boards would be distributed. This caused a panic and a lot of group boards were abandoned.

I decided to stop selling my Manual Pinning ebook in early 2020 and focused on teaching new strategies.

I’ve been pinning to a couple of group boards regularly over the last 5 months and noticed that every group board pin got more impressions (and usually) immediate engagement.

During the last 30 days, I’ve been increasing my group board pinning and the results can’t be denied.

Some group boards still seem to help increase my impressions and engagement.

And I still believe group boards are the quickest way to get engagement on your pins when you’re just starting.

In the image below, you’ll notice two highlighted pins with the highest impressions and saves.

These pins were saved to group boards. The top one (highlighted) was saved only 2 days ago and it already has 6 saves and more impressions than the one published just days before.

I’ve also noticed recently, that Pinterest is pushing board owners to turn their board into a group board. I'm still testing my group boards for engagement and keeping track in a spreadsheet.

I belong to 50+ group boards.

This is way too many and it's going to take me a while to test all of them.

I plan on testing all of my group boards over the coming months and will keep you updated on my results. I am testing the ones that are highly related to my niche/content first and then moving on to the "catch-all" boards.

Once I'm done testing I plan on keeping around 5-10 and archiving the rest.

What about you? I'm curious to know if you're still using group boards as part of your strategy.

Hit reply and let me know.

Much Love and Success,

Hey, Reader! While juggling the roles of single mom and business owner, I never have enough time in the day to get it all DONE. I think it's something we can all relate to... even if you don't have little ones running around. As a result (of never having enough time), I'm constantly trying to increase my productivity without sacrificing quality. This is why I'm all about using shortcuts and hacks that make those repetitive tasks a little less, well, time-consuming. Let's talk about one...
